Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program

We are very pleased to provide you with information about “The Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program”. The Board recently approved a resolution that provides direction about sharing this information with San Mateo employees to help find solutions for employees growing student loan debt.  

The PSLF program allows eligible individuals to receive forgiveness of the remaining balance of their Federal Direct Student Loans after they have made 120 qualifying monthly payments while working full time (at least 30 hours per week) for a qualifying employer.

With hundreds of fires throughout California, and so many close to you, your employees and their families, we wanted to let you now that we are ready to support those being affected.

We’re working directly with our network doctors, business partners, and relief agencies, including the American Red Cross, to assess the situation and fulfill the eye care needs of those directly affected. New Buddy Program Launches!

Knowing that employees are the key to our success, several departments will be participating in the County’s new pilot Buddy Program.  The program is designed to help our new employees feel welcome and connected during their early days and months on the job.  Beginning in January, all new employees in Public Works, Human Resources and targeted areas of the Health Department and Human Services Agency will be assigned a buddy for three months.  The buddy will help them acclimate to the culture of the county, department and their new work environment.  Programs of this nature have proven to be a great...

August 2019 Interns at the Regional Intern Learning Forum

Regional Intern Learning Forums

Human Resources hosted two Regional Intern Learning Forums that brought together 110 interns from 16 agencies across San Mateo County and Santa Clara County. Interns had an opportunity to connect with peers as they worked with professional partners to develop important skills. The first session, held at the Valley Transportation Authority, was focused on “Landing the Job”. Interns had their resumes reviewed and practiced interviewing with HR professionals and program managers from various organizations.
