The County’s Supported Training and Employment Program (STEP) for emancipated foster youth was honored with a 2019 Agency Award for Excellence from CalGovHR, a statewide human resources organization. The award for STEP recognizes the County’s Human Resources Department and Human Services Agency for an innovative program that goes beyond the typical experience of an internship program. Now in its 10th year, STEP has expanded to be a year-round program due to Measure K funding. STEP interns are placed throughout the County in a variety of entry-level positions, learning work/life skills and financial stability. In FY 2017-18, 89% of our STEP interns demonstrated improvement in core competency work readiness skills.

HR’s Talent Acquisition team welcomed returning STEP intern, Rhiannon Labonte. Last year Rhiannon worked as a STEP Intern with Health IT, helping with administrative duties, data entry, and ongoing projects. She will be assisting the Talent Acquisition team with projects and will focus on increasing her Excel expertise. Personnel analysts Mandy Singh and Christina Chan are serving as Rhiannon’s coaches.
