Transgender Day of Remembrance, November 16th, was a remarkable success with over 75 people in attendance at the San Mateo County Pride Center. The Program included talks by Supervisor Pine, transgender members of the community, a Reading of Names, and a Candlelight Vigil Procession. Keynote Speaker Dr. Jei Africa shared “The transgender community is one of the most marginalized communities just among our population in general. And safety remains to be the biggest issue for the transgender-diverse population. I think the Pride Center represents that welcoming and safe space where people can talk. We’re not just mourning the lives that have been lost, but really coming together and saying, ‘we are a resilient community.’”
