On March 16th, eighteen (18) employees from eight departments participated in the first Career Course for employees interested in exploring careers as a Correctional Officer or Deputy Sheriff. This event was organized as a result of the Career Development Program Committee, a partnership with the Human Resources Department, SEIU, and AFSCME, in response to employee feedback requesting a job shadow program. The Human Resources Department partnered with Sheriff’s Office to host this event which included an executive welcome, jail tour, panel, recruitment discussion on position requirements, and a Q&A session. Participants found the course “informative and transparent” and indicated that they will do additional research, speak with employees in those positions, prepare for the testing/application process, and/or participate in a Sheriff’s Office boot camp. All attendees rated the course as good or excellent and would recommend it to a colleague.
